Ever wonder how all that yummy fiber becomes the perfect medium for spinning and other fiber crafts? In this class, using fiber from the farm, participants will learn the basics of using a drum carder, blending board, hackle and diz and leave with their own batt, rolags and roving created by them! We will explore how to create blends, gradients, self striping and art fiber combos. Plan on three to four hours (but don't be surprised if you want to hang out longer!)
Using raw fleece from the farm, learn simple one pot dyeing to create a beautiful multicolored dyed pot. Class will utilize professional acid dyes, clothing appropriate for using dye should be worn. Plan on two to three hours. Techniques can also be used for yarn, although yarn will not be dyed in this class.
Using a drop spindle is an inexpensive and portable way to spin yarn. Attendees will receive an Ashford student spindle and all materials to spin yarn. Set up, park and draft and traditional drafting will be explored. Plan on two to three hours.
A six hour workshop that provides a unique opportunity to learn the entire process of spinning yarn on a treadle spinning wheel. All materials and the use of a class wheel are provided.
Learn the basics of needle felting by creating an adorable needle felted alpaca. We will provide the materials and hands on attention during your class to teach you this simple and enjoyable craft. Plan for three to four hours.
Introduction to weaving workshop is a full day class that is designed to teach the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Attendees will learn the parts of their loom, weaving terms and techniques, learning to warp the loom and will weave a simple scarf.
Enjoy the simple art of wet felting by creating a unique and beautiful felted scarf. The class will concentrate on technique and design. Assorted tools for felting will be used and fiber from both on and off the farm will be part of the project. Plan for three to four hours.
